The Parliament has approved the amendments to the mandatory waiting periods
The Parliament has decided on changes to the waiting periods, which will enter into force on 1 March 2026. With the legislative amendment, certain periods without compensation within unemployment benefits, that is, mandatory waiting periods, will be extended. The changes apply to waiting periods imposed by the employment authority due to blameworthy conduct in job search or participation in labour market services. There will be no changes to other waiting periods.
According to the legislative amendment, a jobseeker would lose their right to unemployment benefit for a fixed period already after the first instance of non-compliance relating to job search or participation in labor market services. In these cases, the mandatory waiting period would be seven calendar days.
After a second instance of non-compliance, the entitlement to unemployment benefit could be lost until further notice. Entitlement to unemployment benefit would be restored once the jobseeker fulfills the obligation to work for six weeks.
