Extended transition security for individuals aged 55 and over

The transition security model was introduced on 1 January 2023. It applies not only to employees but also to civil servants and public office holders, regardless of the size of the employer. The extended transition security is specifically intended for individuals who have reached the age of 55.

What does the extended transition security for those aged 55 and over include?

Those eligible for the extended transition security model for those aged 55 and over are entitled to:

  • a transition security allowance corresponding to one month’s salary from their unemployment fund,
  • transition security training for a period of up to six months, corresponding in value to a maximum of two months’ salary, and
  • five extra days of re-employment leave for those whose notice period is longer than one month.

Unemployment funds answer their members’ questions about the transition security allowance and pay allowances based on their members’ applications. The employment authority will advise you on questions related to transition security training. For information about re-employment leave and other elements of the transition security package, talk to your employer or trade union.
